For those of you who know me well and some who may have never come across me yet, for the last 10 years, I have been working on probably one of the most personal pieces of work I’ll ever make.
My name is Temi Yussuf and I’m a British- Nigerian writer and director based in London. I’ve been working on a story called ‘Daughter of a daughter’ throughout my creative career. It’s been a story I have wanted to make sure get’s told right and honours some of the most important women in life: my mum and my grandma.
The film explores grief, love, culture and family through the eyes of a ten year old girl who must navigate the loss of her mother while meeting her grandmother for the first time.
I have taken my time launching this fundraiser. The world feels heavy, and I know many are carrying their own responsibilities. But I’ve also been reminded that part of my work as an artist is to create stories that honour our shared humanity and bring us closer together.
This story began as something deeply personal and private, but over time, has grown beyond me.
If you are able to contribute in any way, whether through donating, sharing, or simply sending encouragement, it would mean more than I can put into words. Not only for me, but in honour of the memories that inspired this film.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
